It was over...it was over, the day Genoa…Keyoko, had been dreading, fearing almost all her life had come and gone. The owner of the shadow, the shadow man...Urel, had come for her at last. He'd taken her and then he and his companions took everything from her as they always did but this time...this time, she'd rose up and fought back, in her anguish, in her unbridled fury, she'd destroyed him...destroyed everything around her.
Overwhelmed by her emotions she'd summoned a powerful uncontrollable storm. She couldn't handle it, she couldn't handle anything. She could no longer cope with this world. At the rate she was going, she...she thought she would make the whole would implode around her but then the ice she'd been trapped under, all these years finally began to crack.
Before her it shattered into a million pieces and then the parts of her that had always been just beyond the cusp arose. At last she'd broke free, all that had been beyond her, memories, feelings and powers came flooding into her. It was as if a dam of information had suddenly broken and it was all hitting her at once. Her true self, eternally flowed within her once more and she no longer had doubts of herself, of this world she lived in. She knew who she was and what was going on. Most of all she realized what she was doing.
Her mind filled with the voices of all those around her, the screams of those who had unintentionally been caught up in her raging storm. She did what she could to dissipate the storm before it got any more out of control. She released a wave of tempered air and then she felt herself falling.
It had all been too much for her mind and body to handle. She crashed to the ground and fell unconscious. As her body repaired itself once more, her mind swirled with feverish dreams. She called out to Luka as she always did but this time...this time, she heard him call back. Ever so faintly, she felt his presence, her heart burst with excitement, knowing he was back and so close.
She wanted to reach out, to connect with him but felt herself being pulled away as her body was moved. She tried to send her mind to him. She just wanted a gimps of him, to know what he looked like in this life but she was too weak...too weak. She fell back into the recesses of her mind until she finally awoke.
Opening her eyes, Keyoko found herself laying on a metal cot. She was in a room with metal walls and floors. There was a small sink and a toilet, cameras were in every corner of the room and the door only opened from the outside. She doubted this was a hospital, given what she had done, it was probably a prison, either way it wasn't Urel's bed.
She sat up slowly, carefully, her body was still in the process of healing, it probably would be for a few more days, maybe even a weeks at best. She'd exerted a lot of power, more so then usual. It was rare to have so much power so early on. She wondered if it was the body she'd been reborn into. She knew sometimes it could amplify or weaken her. It could also be the area-
She ran her fingers through her hair and then looked at them. Someone must have cleaned her up, the last time she'd looked at her hands they were covered in paint and blood. Harold's blood.
"Harold…" she whispered under her breath, flashes of her brother crossed her mind. She recalled him falling to his knees the painting spatula in-bedded in his chest…to the very end he fought, he told the others they would go to prison, that they would pay but in the end it was him that paid.
She saw Eyo step up behind him again and again before he snapped Harold's neck breaking it. She recalled how Harold's presence had fallen away, when she'd rushed to him, clung to him, his eyes had been dull, the life snuffed out of him. She buried her head in her hands and began to weep recalling her vengeance once more. She had killed Eyo...Gigi...Urel. She killed them all but they weren't the only ones.
She closed her eyes recalling the voices, the screams she heard in her head, there were so many. She realized too late what she had done, she tried to fix it but Keyoko more then anyone knew some things couldn't be fixed. Sometimes when things got broken they stayed broken.
She pulled her hands from her face and ran them through her hair once more, smoothing it out. She realized she was wearing clothes...a brightly colored jump suit. She'd probably been captured, arrested for her crimes...whatever the consequences, she'd pay them. She liked to think she was a good person, that she was better then Urel and the others that chose chaos and destruction but the truth was, she too was a monster.
All those people...all those people...she'd just killed them. She hadn't meant to but none the less, she had even considered then when she brought her fury down upon them. She had wrecked their worlds and ruined any possible futures they and their families might have had-
The door to her room suddenly opened, she turned her head as a solider walked in, immediately she sensed the soldiers presence. She could read him almost like he was a book, she'd pulled off a shelf. He was Brock Patrick Balo, knew where he had been born who his parents and siblings were, the trauma and triumphs he had endured up to this point, played across her mind and when he reached out and touched her skin...she could hear the very thoughts in his head, 'I'll take my break then in another two hours I'm off, I'll go to the store get what we need and I should still be able to make it to the party in time...oh man am I going to be tired these double shifts are killing me…all because of this woman.'
Her eyes widened as she looked at him,' Why is she looking at me like that? What's her problem? What kind of hair color is that?'
'Stand up," said Balo. 'Whatever I just need to move her to the next room, then I can take my last break. I hope there is still something left in the vending machines.'
She rose up slowly, finding it hard to have thoughts of her own, when she was completely consumed by someone else's. Balo pulled her from the room and into the hall. There were at least five other soldiers out there, lining the hallways walls. She couldn't hear their thoughts but they were like open books to her as well...no pictures...yes. She was holding a book in her hand and staring at a wall of pictures that were each telling its oww story...It was too much after a second or two they started to blur into one another.
Overwhelmed, she found she could barely walk, she started to stagger and Balo held her tighter, 'What now! What is wrong with her? She better not be sick, I remember that one guy puked all over me, couldn't get the smell out of my uniform had to order a new one."
Instinctively, she tried to pull free of him, pull free of his thoughts so she could grasp hold of her own. Another solider Gerald Mac Milner, stepped up and grabbed her other arm, 'Just give me a reason bitch...just give me a reason...my sistes lived in Masser." Keyoko could see a build, she and her brother had often walked by on their outings. She found she could weed through the Milner thoughts like he was a file cabinet. Masser the building was two blocks from the center of the event. His sister's body had yet to be found...she was most likely dead.
"I'm sorry," Keyoko cried once she realized she'd killed his sister. "I'm so sorry,"
"What!" said Milner. "I didn't say anything to you!"
"Let's just get her to the room,"said Balo 'I want my fucking break'
"Good luck I'm still waiting on mine three hours ago," Milner said before he glared at her but 'What is she apologizing to me for, does she know who I am, does she know she killed my sister, did she do it on purpose!'
Keyoko stumbled about and then stopped walking all together, it was too much, she wanted it to stop but they just kept going, they dragged her along until she was in the interrogation room. They sat her down at a table and hand cuff her to a chain, that was attached to the table. They gloriously let go of her and their thoughts pulled from her mind. She could feel herself again...the others presence were still there but quieter. She tried to settled down and then her sensitivity spiked. She could hear scattered thoughts like she was turning the dial on a radio.
'I'm hungry! I knew I should have eaten but I was just so tired, no time, no time for antyhing,'
'It's just a rash….it's just a rash nothing more I'm fine...I'm fine. DAMN IT ITCHES! MY BALLS ARE GONNA FALL OFF. FUCK I KNEW I should have worn something! I KNEW A THREESOME WAS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!'"When you love a man, you got to stand by his side…When you love a man you've to give him the world…or was it...word…I can't remember all the lyrics. Was I even getting the tune right. The audition is next week I need to be ready. When you...When you love a man….Shit they need to let us wear headphones' "Focus, focus, shit I gotta go to the bathroom!"
"Was it the episode with the wings or I think it was the episode with the dynamite, yeah that was the one where Chutney found out his father was still alive. Man I love this show!"
The thoughts separated and then combined, they felt like they were coming from everyone, everywhere. Keyoko cried out in agony...Her eyes, her ears, her entire body was so sensitive to everything. Their minds suddenly began to focus on a woman that walked down the hall.
'Big boss coming and salute...feeeew….bathroom, bathroom, gonna use the bathroom'
'She is so cool, I wish I could be like her. At this rate I'm not gonna make rank until I'm 30 uhhh'
"What is she twenty...fucking kids leading shit these days!'
'She's kind of hot I guess, yeah I'd do her….yeah I'd do her real good heh," he saluted..."That's right salute my cock,'
"Has she been secured," the woman asked for some reason Keyoko couldn't hear her thoughts.
"Yes Survayant Rogers," 'Her father is the only reason she has this job,'
The woman stepped into the room Balo was standing in the door way, he saluted her, 'Don't make too much eye contact. Don't make too much eye contact, she's spooky as shit. I heard she can do things, "
"What did you do to her?" asked Survayant Rogers as she saw Keyoko flailing about the table. Keyoko could barely focus on her voice.
"Nothing she just started acting like this as soon as we pulled her out of the room." said Balo
Milner was not far off 'She's probably faking it, trying to get some medial release.'
Balo looked at her 'What If she has some sort of disease...what if I get sick before the party,'
Milner 'Shit she could have one of those false teeth...I bet that is what it is...she's killing herself...or wait would their be foam? Or gas...Shit I hope there isn't gas or were all dead...dead like my sister-"
"AAAAHHH," Keyoko couldn't take it. "PLEASE! PLEASE! MAKE THEM LEAVE! IT'S TOO MUCH! TOO MANY VOICES! I CAN'T! I CAN'T! She cried out and covered her ear again but the voices weren't in her ears, they were in her mind…in her mind.
She'd heard other before she'd been fully awakened but they'd always been very quiet just out of comprehension, easy enough to drown out, especially when she and Harold were barely around anyone else. She closed her eyes and began to rock. She needed to focus, she needed to focus, to shut them out, how could she shut them out? She had to remember. She had to remember how she used to shut them out.
Survayant Rogers stared at her for a moment and then began ordering the soldiers out and away from the interrogation room. They thought she was acting crazy but followed her orders. As they got farther away Keyoko could finally hear herself think. When Survayant Rogers returned to the room she looked up at her. Keyoko pulled her hands from her ears and realized she couldn't read her, there was something different about her. Yes she...was one of them. She could feel it now...she closed her eyes, trying to sense just who she was.
Survayant Rogers set a folder down on the table and then sat down. "I am Survayant Krissy Rogers with the SVC-"
"Jeza," gasped Keyoko, a smile crossed her lips as she could feel her now. She opened her eyes and looked at her old friend. At last, after all these years she had found a friend… friend.
Krissy's breath caught in her throat."You know me?"
"Yes, you and I were friends," said Keyoko excitedly. "In another life...in many other lives,"
"Yes," said Krissy quietly. "I know,"
"How long have you been awake?" asked Keyoko excitedly.
"Since I was a child," said Krissy.
"Me too...well not really," said Keyoko tilting her head, "I thought I was awake, I was in an accident, when I was younger. I remembered a lot but as it turns out I was only partially awake...until recently...so yeah. I guess I was somewhat awake but now I'm fully awake"
"I see," said Krissy. She leaned forward in her chair and looked like she wanted to say something but held back. Her gaze shifted to the side, she stiffened and then straitened her posture continuing, "I am happy to see you again my old friend but you should know. I am first and foremost a Survayant of the Urutha government,"
"Oh," said Keyoko. She looked at Krissy, a second ago her eyes had been warm but they now seemed distant "I see," said Keyoko pulling back in her seat. Even though this was Jeza, she was making it clear her job, came first, in this life.
"Do you know why you are here, what you have done?" asked Krissy.
"Yes." said Keyoko quietly. For a brief moment, she had forgotten it all, Urel, Harold, the storm. "I...I unleashed a storm."
Krissy let out a deep sigh. "You- Why did you do this?"
"I..I'm sorry I couldn't control myself," said Keyoko. "Urel...he returned. HE and the others they killed my brother and I...I just lost it."
"You WERE attacked," said Jeza perking up. "Wait...Urel he HAS returned! HE'S BACK! WHO IS HE!"
"It's alright," assured Keyoko, "I got him before he woke up, I'm not sure what that does to the curse for this life. I know if one of us die dies, it makes all of us vulnerable but if he wasn't awake I'm not sure if it counts, do you remember-"
"I do not," said Krissy. Her tone was stern as she stayed on task, "What was his name? How did you take him out?"
"I took them all out," said Keyoko leaning forward. She played with the chain attached to the table as she replaying it in her head, "I threw Eyo out a window and Gigi through some walls. I don't think they will be dead though, they were already awake, you'll want to keep an eye out for them."
"We have EYO," said Krissy. She quickly popped a pen open and began taking notes. "But we haven't run acorss Gigi yet,"
"OH, WELL YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL!" said Keyoko, "Remember she can use her powers to make herself look like anyone or even just disappear." Keyoko recalled how Gigi had made her and Keyoko disappear. Harold hadn't seen them...he'd panicked when he couldn't find her. She clenched her first thinking of Harold. Perhaps if she had called out to him he would have seen Gigi's abilities and believed her. They could have run...no...Gigi and the others would have just attacked sooner.
"Right," said Krissy jotting down more notes. "She makes illusions. Do you know her name in this life?"
"She said it was…"Keyoko tried to think back, it had only been a day or so but it felt like months since they had first met, "Esma...Eldro or Elder or Eldor, I think?"
Krissy quickly took down the names, "NOW UREL! What was his name?"
"His name in this life was Jesep Zian, he lived in the penthouse of my building." said Keyoko.
Krissy stopped writing and froze, Keyoko tilted her head sensing something was wrong.
"Who...did you say was Urel was in this life?" asked Krissy, she looked shaken.
"Jesep Zian," said Keyoko.
Krissy quickly looked through her folder and pulling out a picture of Jesep. She placed it on the table before Keyoko and said "THIS MAN!" Keyoko winced, even though it was over, even though he was dead now, she could still feel his skin on her skin. Those eyes of his, the way he had made her feel...she trembled feeling her body moisten, she turned her head away feeling sick and ashamed. She nodded. "Yes...that was him,"
Krissy breathed in sharply, shaking her head. "THIS MAN! HE'S NOT DEAD KEYOKO!"
Keyoko turned back to her, "WHAT! BUT NO...NO I...I threw him down, we were up in the air, he wasn't awake yet- At least that is what Gigi said. I used my powers and I threw him into the ground. HE SHOULD BE DEAD!"
"WELL, HE ISN'T!" said Krissy, "Some of my men found him in a what we believed was a sink hole,"
"Where is he now!" gasped Keyoko. She looked around the room, fearful he was just going to pop up out of nowhere. She looked for the shadow, was it even still with her? She looked all over the room but couldn't be sure, if it was there or not, "You have to do something! HE'S DANGEROUS JEZA!"
"I know! I know! Believe me I know," said Krissy. She quickly gathered up her things, "I DIDN'T realize it was him. He didn't have his stone."
"He doesn't have his stone!? Maybe...maybe he's only partially awake like I was" said Keyoko. She thought there might still be hope. Might still be a chance they could stop him.
"I don't know," said Krissy. "BUT I'll find out! I need you to wait here! I've got to secure him at once. When everything is under control, I'll return and we'll figure things out."
"Let me go with you," said Keyoko. She stood up, pulling on her handcuffs. She didn't exactly want to see him again but she knew there was strength in numbers. She wasn't alone not anymore and neither was Jeza. They had each other, they could work together.
Krissy paused, Keyoko could tell she was considering, taking her with her but shook her head,
"I'm sorry I can't take you with me. Please just hang tight, I'll be back as soon as I can,"
Krissy practically ran out of the room, shutting the door behind her. Keyoko dropped back into her seat, alone she ran her hands through her hair and over her face, recalling the last time she'd seen him. He'd looked up at her and she slammed him back down to the ground. She wondered now if...if she inadvertently woken him up. She hoped Jeza would be able to secure him and that together they could stop him but she had a bad feeling about this. She couldn't help but think of what Gigi had said "HE'LL GET YOU FOR THIS! HE'LL GET YOU FOR THIS!"
Krissy rushed from the interrogation room, knowing she needed to act fast. This was it, day zero, the day she and everyone else had been planning for. Urel had returned! Urel was BACK and she'd just sat right across from him! Krissy could have kicked herself. How did she not know? Why...WHY hadn't she sensed something from him. Was he only partially awake as Keyoko had said?
Her mind raced thinking of Keyoko… For so long Krissy had been alone, she had so many questions, so many things she wanted to discuss with Keyoko. She recalled how being around another could help you remember faster. Sitting across from Keyoko, she'd felt so excited, new memories and emotions started bubbled to the surface. She'd so badly wanted to dive into everything but thankfully, somehow she'd managed to keep her composure. She'd stayed on task and it was a good thing she had, now that she knew Jesep was indeed Urel, there wasn't a moment to spare.
Krissy clenched her first as she sped herself up, moving into the stairwell. She thought about contacting Burger or sounding the alarm but thought better of it. She had just found out who he was, maybe just maybe, he didn't now that she knew yet and she could use that to her advantage.
She slowed herself as she stepped out of the stairwell. She took a deep breath, preparing herself for anything. She looked up and down the halls as she made her way to his room. Everything appeared to be normal, calm. When she got to his room, two soldiers were still stationed outside his door. The nurse from earlier was slowly approaching.
She quickly saluted Krissy when she saw her. "Hello, Survayant Rogers."
The two soldiers noticed her and also saluted.
"Is he still in his room?" Krissy asked, trying not to appear alarmed.
"Yes, we were just about to get him and being the tests you ordered,"
"Right," thought Krissy. She'd ordered tests, she didn't need them now, she knew who he was.
She stepped up to his door and looked in on him. He was sitting up in bed, he still appeared tired. She pulled back coming up with a plan. She needed to lock him down right away! She knew she was suppose to give everyone a chance but he wasn't like everyone else. She, Urutha, the planet, the galaxy, couldn't afford to give him a chance.
Krissy considered freezing him in time but that would only hold him for so long. It would also leave her open to an attack, if someone else appeared. Even if someone else didn't, he would still need to be moved from his room, to the lock down team, she was glad she had them on standby.
She crossed her arms and decided she would freeze him in time, only long enough to sedate him. Once he was sedated he would no longer be an immediate threat. She would be able to handle any other threats and could quietly move him to the lock down team, with the soldiers stationed outside his door. She'd have Urel put in full lock down before the sedation even had a chance to wear off. Krissy smiled to herself, liking the plan.
She turned to the nurse and said, "Change of plans, I want him sedated at once, bring me Zexinex"
"Yes mam, right away," said the nurse. She quickly turned, hurried back down the hall and went into the medical room.
Krissy kept her eyes on Jesep and motioned to the soldiers, "Be ready,"
They nodded and moved into readied positions. Krissy really didn't want to involve, normal people in this but just in case she failed, she wanted the soldiers ready to back her up. As Krissy waited for the nurse to returned, she felt something ever so slightly, the other presence from earlier, yes, it must have been Gigi she'd been feeling. She was close, Krissy needed to act fast, she looked down the hall and saw the nurse rushing back with the syringe
"Do you want me to do it?" asked the nurse.
"No I will," said Krissy.
She reached out to take the syringe but the nurse quickly pulled it back. Krissy was confused, she felt something at the back of her head as it exploded. Krissy's body collapsed to the floor and the nurse and soldiers disappeared. Gigi stood over Krissy with a silencer, her heart racing.
"FUCK that was close!" she gasped. She looked down at Jeza's corpse, her brains had splattered all over. "Uhh what a fucking mess! I guess the cats out of the bag!"
She looked in on Jesep and then touched her ear piece, radioing Eyo, "Jeza knows but I got her."
"Secure her, and bring him to me at once," ordered Eyo.
"Alright but I'm gonna need another hit," said Gigi.
Eyo didn't respond, she let out a heavy sigh. She put her silencer away and then dragging Krissy's corpse through the hall. She moved her to the room with the rest of the corpses and disarmed her. When Gigi though she had everything, she zip tied Jeza' hands and feet, knowing unlike the rest of the corpses Jeza would regenerate. Hopefully by then they'd be long gone from here or at least she'd have some fucking help.
Once Jeza was secured, Gigi pulled back and got an idea. It took a little extra effort but she moved several of the corpses on top of Jeza. Just in case they didn't come back, she wanted her to have a nice little treat, when she woke up. |
