Matchmaker
Day Mode

"Love is a myth! There is no such thing as "the one." Marriage is just a business contract like any other!"

"No I don't believe that! Not anymore! I don't know what it is, but I feel everything has changed. I can't marry Veronica anymore. She is not the love of my life. I'm going to Milas and am going to meet her. The one!

Damion scoffed hearing his little brother lose it on the phone "All because of what some crack pot swindler said!"

"I don't care what you think. She knew things about me no one else did. She knew about Milas and that I would meet the love of my life there this week."

"Why this week? Why not next week. Have you forgotten about this being the biggest meeting of your career."

"I don't care I wont risk missing her. I want to start the rest of my life now. If I don't meet her this week I wont have another chance for three years,"

"How does she know," persisted Damion. "Is she a psychic as well as a matchmaker now?"

"I'm sorry but I have to go I don't want to miss my flight."

"Seriously Roman."

The phone hung up and Damion just shook his head. Sitting in the darkness of his office, he couldn't believe his brother had been taken in by scammer. He truly was an idiot. It was any wonder they were related. He checked the time then took something for his digestion. He could easily replace his brother at the meeting but if he fucked this merger up with Veronica Hezzler. He'd never forgive him. He'd heard of cold feet but this was throwing his life away. Veronica was the daughter to the owner and Ceo of the biggest logistic cooperation. This marriage was suppose to unifies the families ties in blood and business.

He stood and looked out the window knowing his brother would be back in his week. When he didn't meet this "one." Yes he'd come to his senses and be begging him to fix thing. One again he would owe Damion everything like always.

Yet a week came and went and his brother had not returned nor called. He sent an associate to find out where he'd gone. It took him a month but he found him and found he'd married some women he'd met. He quit the family business and wasn't coming home. It was a right old mess. All because of some fucking matchmaker. He was still cleaning things up three months later. He'd get his brother to come to his sense and no one would be the wiser. As for this match maker he planed to ruin her like she'd tried to ruin all his plans.

If there was one thing he could not stand it was fraudsters. He despised liars and thieves. Those who would play on others emotions to further their means, especially when they interfered in his plans. He had his right hand ma look into this bitch. She went by many names and had left a trail of misery in her wakes, broken engagements and divorces. People from all around would come to her to make sure they were making the "right' choice. She played on their fears and doubts profiting from heartache.

He tried to meet with her several times but she didn't make public performances. She didn't even use a phone. He tried to book an appointment but found she didn't make them. It and she made no damn sense yet tonight it would be over. He'd settle this once and for all. He'd take the bitch out and show his brother that it was all some part of a bigger fraud. He handed his coat off to one of the matrons then headed upstairs to the rooftop gala. He was dressed in his best and ready to throw down. At the end of the day, Logic would always win out.

He took up a glass of wine and canned the room. His right hand man had already arrived and was keeping tabs on her. He informed him she was wearing a silver dress. He scanned the rooftop but it didn't take him long to find her. He saw the back of her first. She had a low cut dress. She practically glowed with all the lights and the sliver in her dress. She was talking with several people, swindling them no doubt.

He walked right up to her not wanting to waste more time on this then he had to. She turned as a plate of horderves passed and she looked in his direction. He stopped mid stride, struck by her beauty. If he had to elaborate about just what it was that caught his eye he could not. By any means there were countless beautiful women in his world and yet none were more so then her. He took in those big eyes of hers, the way her lips curved up when she smiled, how several loose strands of her hair rested on her shoulders he longed to caress wit his lips. Everything...every part of her was doing it for him.

He had never believed in love at first sight, but he was quickly changing his mind. He could not take his eyes off her as she spoke to someone else. She was the woman of his dreams only she was real and standing right before him. Somehow he managed to get hold of himself and stepped right up to her. He offered out his hand and introduced himself "Damion Deemer."

She reached out her hand and he took it. Her eyes glossed over for a second and then she looked at him and almost seemed, no was frightened! She looked about for a moment and he recalled why he was there, to undo the damage she'd done. He'd nearly forgotten perhaps she recognized his name. She went to pull her hand back but he would not let it go until she gave him her name. He already knew it of course,

"Isadora Vauxhall." she said reluctantly. She gave him a polite smile but continued to look anywhere but his gaze. She bit her lip and he wondered what it would feel like against his own. She tried to go around him but he blocked her path. He just wanted to keep staring at her but he'd come there for a reason.

"I believe you know my brother."

Before she could respond someone popped some champagne and the music was turned down to announce some child to be born. He looked away for only a second yet whenhe looked back she was gone. He sought her out and saw her actually running for the stairs. He couldn't believe her audacity. He'd come here to confront her and hadn't yet said two sentences to her and she was already running. He quickly gave pursuit.

She didn't bother to grab her coat and went straight for the elevators. She stepped in pushed the button and put her back to the elevator wall. She looked absolutely horrified. For a moment their eyes locked as he rushed up to the elevator door. They shut just before he reached them. He stood their for a moment then grimaced, she would not get away so easily. He caught the next elevator and road it all the way down.

Her elevator was faster and he caught sight of her as she rushed through the glass turnstyle doors. Her scarf got caught and she didn't even bother to grab it. He rushed to the doors and had to wait for them to turn. He grabbed her scarf then rushed out into the street. He looked up and down for her but she was gone. He breathed in her scarf and here mere sent was intoxicating. His heart hadn't ever pounded so hard in his chest. He hadn't felt this alive in years. Still seeking her out amongst the busy traffic he realized he'd just been going through the motions until he'd saw her.

It felt like someone had taken hold of his heart and squeezed it as he realized she'd gotten away but not for long. He would catch her and next time she wouldn't get away so easily. He breathed her scarf in again then smiled to himself as his right hand man stepped beside him. "Is everything alright sir?"

"No," he said turning, "I don't care what it takes, find that woman!'

Three days later.

She had barely rested moving from one place to the next, since she had touched him. She instantly knew him from a single touch only what she saw horrified her beyond imagination. She liked to think she didn't see the future but possible futures. When she touched Damion Deemer she knew he would not stop until he had her. Countless outcomes overcame her until she was nearly overwhelmed. It had been years since anyone had rattled her so and never to such an extent as this. She scrambled to think of how she could get away.

Once she had she didn't know where she could go. She knew this man had the means to chase her to the ends of the earth. She went back to her apartment and gathered her dogs and most prize possessions knowing she was never coming back then caught the first plane she could get. From there she did some serious thinking and a man kept coming to her mind. She had seen him through the eyes of others and knew just how capable he was. He was suppose to be the best when it came to protection but he had vanished some years ago.

Of course with her abilities no one ever truly escaped her sight. She took plans, trains and boats trying to throw Damion off her trail. Then finally she mad the trek to a small remote dessert village. She got a lift out to the edge of town and saw his home. He was shirtless working in his garage, listening to music and drinking a beer. He wiped his brow and came out when he saw someone had arrived. She could see he had a gun but didn't flash it. Once he assessed her he lowered his guard slightly but still looked around cautiously.

She set her bags down and walked up to him. "I know you don't know me but I know you. I need your help, please believe you are the only one that can save me."

He took a swig of his beer then shook his head, "I don't protect people anymore. I'm retired."

"Please, money isn't an issue for me and I can do other things." He looked her over and raised an eyebrow. Clearly he thought she meant sexual. "I can find anything that's been lost, I can answer questions you've sought answers to. I can do things that most can't but I need you to help me. The man who is after me is ruthless, he will stop at nothing to find me. I know you've lost a lot but if you don't help me then I will lose everything and so will countless others."

He looked at her then took another swig of his beer. It was empty. He tossed it then wiped his mouth, "I don't know who you are or how you found me but I don't care. I'm done with all that. Find someone else. I don't' need money. I don't need "anything" else. She rushed to him and reached out, hoping to learn something about him that could change him mind. He batted her hand away, but contact was still contact.

Flashes of who he was crossed her mind but there was more to him. A connection that was far stronger then any other. Since she was a little, she was able to know things by touching others. Sometimes it was gift, but could also be a curse. She had seen things most could not imagine. Everyone took her abilities differently. There were some that were in awe, some that were horrified and those that would want to take advantage of her. She learned some things the hard way. A few times she was nearly captured or killed because of what she could do. She had to change her name several times but still needed to make a living.

She found being a matchmaker allowed her to use her powers, without others questioning it to much. Once they found their significant others they often didn't care how. She was able to live well and help others. She tried to make everyone happy but often knew that wasn't possible. Alot of times she'd go for the lesser evils. As her powers grew she began to have dreams of past lives. She didn't fully understand everything but figures slowly began to emerge. One of light and one of shadow. She realized Damion was the one of Shadow, a darkness that had washed over countless life times and Jacob….was the light. The one she had sought out only to find now in her dire time.

She could see the lives they'd shared together and knew what he had been through. She could not bring herself to do him more harm even at the cost of her own demise. She pulled back and quickly apologized. "I'm sorry to have bothered you."

A tear escaped her eye as she pulled away from him.

"What?" he said clearly confused.

She didn't say another word. She turned her back to him and quickly gathered her bag. She felt like such an idiot. In her haste she had not even fathomed that this man could be her true love. She...had only ever seen him from other points of view. Had seen his actions not what was held within. Perspective wasn't always clear but she saw everything so vividly now as she began to walk. She knew it would be a while until she got back to town and her dogs began to whimper. She worried about them and let them out of a bit getting thems ome food and water. Then she sat for a long moment. She was always so used to knowing things and yet she felt at a loss. No...she still knew things she just didn't like what she knew.

Three hours later.

He was out of beer. He made a run into town in his truck. It was a bit of a drive but nothing compared to the walk. She saw the woman was still making the trek. He thought to offer her a ride but he couldn't afford a soft heart. He'd gotten out of the business after so many years. He felt he earned the right to be just left alone. He moved out to the middle of nowhere and kept to himself. He spent all his time fixing things or just drinking beer and sleeping. Live was good, stress free until she showed up.

He knew that look of desperation well but he couldn't get involved anymore. He couldn't afford to lose anymore of himself or others. He just wanted to live out the rest of his days in peaceful oblivious. He got into town then stocked up on beer. He paid then stopped at the local bar to see what was going on. He asked if anyone had been asking about him. It really pissed him off that she had found him. No one was suppose to know who he was or what he was about. The bartender knew most of what went on in town. He told him no one had been looking for him but there were some men looking for a woman.

He showed him a picture of course it was her. Whoever was after her was probably close now. It wasn't his problem. He had a beer then went outside he saw several men, he sized them up as security. They were surrounding a man who had on sunglasses and was standing under an umbrella. The two clocked each other immediately and the man soon approached him. He thrust the picture in the mans face, "Have you seen this woman."

The man lowered his sunglasses and Jacob stared into his ice blue eyes there was something about him that really pissed him off. He was usually good about sizing people up and right now his gut was screaming that this son of a bitch wasn't right. He spit and it nearly landed on his shoe. Another big guy who must have been his body guard tried to come up on Jacob but he wasn't having it. The two stared each other down until the man with the sunglasses pulled him off "Leave it we have more important things to do." The little group moved on and he got back in his car. He adjusted his rearview mirror. There must have been ten of them. Overkill for one person but maybe she was just that badass.

He chuckled then started up the truck. He told himself he was just going home. He saw her sitting on the ground. She had some dogs out and he planned to drive passed but slowed the car. There was just something about the guy with the ice blue eyes that really ticked him off. He rolled down the window and called out, "Get in!"

"No I'm good," she called.

Another thing that bothered him, she'd clearly come out here in desperation. Pleaded with him to help her then just up and changed her mind. It wasn't normal. Something else was clearly at play here. Desperate people didn't suddenly change their stance after being told no a few times. Usually it took more force to knock them off yet she'd changed before his eyes and pulled away. Now she wouldn't get in his car.

"He's in town," he guy said.

She perked up but said, "It's my problem don't worry."

She was clearly trying to put on a front. He really didn't have time for this, "You gonna make me get out of the truck and drag your ass to safety."

"You-" she stopped herself from speaking, "You've been through enough,"

"How do you know,"

"I know," she said "I can read people."

"Clearly not," he said. "Or you'd see how pissed off I am. GET IN THE FUCKING CAR. Or we can both just wait here until they find you."

She bit her lip but got the dogs back in their crate. She picked up the rest of the bag and put them in the trunk before she got in. You can take me somewhere safe but then after that… we should go out separate ways."

"Fine by me." he said starting the truck. "So what you some kind of badass or something."

"No," she chuckled, "I wish,"

He rubbed his mouth and his gut went off again only different this time, "Are you sure we haven't met before,"

"Not in this life," she said.

He raised an eyebrow and wondered if she was mental, "Okay then,"

"Sorry I was just joking," she said.

"Some joke," he said, "Anyway you might as well tell me everything, if I'm gonna find you some place safe. Who is this guy and what does he want from you?"

"Who is this guy," she repeated shaking her head, "You're worst enemy and what does he want from me, everything."

She looked at him and again he felt his gut fire off another round. He had a bad feeling about this. He left out a heavy sigh and shook his head, "So much for retirement."
